The Church of Christ in Reno began with a shared dream, a love of God, a love for community and family, and a call to start something new. In 2008, Matt and his wife Kristi were ready for a fresh chapter after eight years of ministry in Southern California. For Kristi, the idea of planting a new congregation held special meaning—she’d grown up in Auburn, California, where her parents had started a work when she was young, and that experience left her longing to be part of another new beginning.
Matt and Kristi took a vacation with two families, driving through Oregon, Washington, and California. The trip was filled with laughter and connection, and as it came to an end, the group found themselves wishing they could spend more time together. That spark of joy led to a bigger conversation: What if they could combine their longing for community with a new mission? The idea of moving to Reno to start a congregation took root. Those two families were all in, and soon a third family joined the adventure.
In 2008, Matt, Kristi, and the three other families relocated to Reno, united by a simple vision: to develop followers of Jesus who love God, love people, and take the Gospel to the world. Over time, that vision evolved into the Reno Church of Christ motto: “A family of faith united by a common love.” From the beginning, the Reno Church of Christ was built on the belief that everyone needs a place to belong—a spiritual home where hope thrives, no matter your age or background.
This congregation remains a safe and friendly place to learn about Jesus and experience His love in meaningful ways. It’s a community that makes a difference in each other’s lives, offering support in tough times and celebrating joy in the good ones. At the center of it all are the Bible, God, and Jesus's sacrifice, guiding us as we grow together in faith and love.
